The Derby Community Centre in Kilsyth is one of three community facilities operated by the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The facility in Derby is a former natural ice arena, repurposed as a community facility. In addition to a concrete arena floor, Derby has a second-floor community space with meeting room and kitchen facilities.

The Township of Georgian Bluffs had been approached by Ontario Sport Development, a private company, who were interested in assuming the operation of the Derby Community Centre. The company intended to add indoor turf to the arena floor for community use and rental.

Thank you to everyone that shared their feedback online, in writing and in person during our engagement period! Staff have reviewed all the feedback and took a report to Council at a Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday October 11th and made a final decision at Council on October 18th. Recommendation

That staff be directed to inform the proponent that Council is uninterested in exploring an agreement for alternative use of the Derby Community Centre; and

That a staff report and formal proposal for further consideration of Council is not supported at this time; and

That staff be directed to bring back a report outlining opportunities to optimize use of the Derby Community Centre.
